| Description: | This design is based on the pattern on a pashmina fabric shawl made into a dress. It is one of several shawls at Powis Castle traditionally associated with Henrietta Herbert, Lady Clive. (Pashmina fabric produced in Kashmir in the late 18th century was twill tapestry-woven goats' fleece). Mughal shawls of this type were fashionable in the late 18th century. It is thought that the birds represent tame hura birds from Srinagar where the shawl was made. |
