Stourhead Garden was laid out in the eighteenth century, with lakes and temples, rare trees and plants. King Alfred's Tower, a red brick folly built in 1772 by Flitcroft at the edge of the Estate is 160 feet high giving fine views over the neighbouring counties of Somerset, Dorset and Wiltshire.
