| Description: | Speke Hal, Wirral, UK was built during the sixteenth century. The house was sold in 1795, for the only time in its 500 year history, to Richard Watt. A wealthy local merchant, he used the fortune he had made through slavery in the West Indies to restore the derelict house. The interiors are characterised by the restorations and refurbishments made by his descendants, particularly during the Victorian period. Speke Hall passed to the National Trust in 1943. This is part of the National Trust Cross Stitch Collection |
