| Description: | This moated manor house dates from 1340 onwards and the main features of the house span many centuries. The fleur de lys in the border are found on wallpaper in house; the Tudor rose represents Henry VIII and the pomegranate is the symbol of Catherine of Aragon. A representation of the pomegranate is incorporated in the painted ceiling of the Tudor Chapel. The House derives its name, not from the fact that it has a moat, but from the moot, or council, which met here in medieval times. This is part of the National Trust Cross Stitch Collection |
