| Description: | Knole is regarded as one of the great treasure houses of England. The original 15th century house was enlarged and embellished by 1st Earl of Dorset, one of Queen Elizabeth 1st's favorites. Sometimes Knole is referred to as the "Calendar House" because it has 365 rooms, 52 stairways and 7 courtyards. The sampler depicts the view afforded to the visitor when entering the Green Court via the main gate. The border is an adaptation of plaster work found in the house.
